The foundation of Dr. Cannon’s sex therapy practice is a positive and affirming approach to sexuality. We guide our clients through a “non-touch” therapeutic process intended to enrich and heal through education, counseling and psychotherapy. We welcome individuals, couples and adolescents. This is one area, however, where we believe that what we do not do in therapy is as important as the therapeutic approach that we do take. Despite the pop culture label “sex addict”, we prefer to view this difficult and painful situation for what it is, sexually compulsive behavior. When we recognize it for what it is, treatment becomes more practical, and healthy sexual behavior becomes more attainable. We also specializes in the unique needs of sexual minorities. He has a post-graduate certification in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer family systems. he is a volunteer at the Gender Identity Center of Colorado and a long-time supporter of Project Angel Heart. Dr. Cannon also has expertise within the kink community, and he is currently involved in one of the largest scientific research projects ever conducted in the BDSM community. Neil Cannon has a Doctor of Human Sexuality degree as well as a Master of Public Health degree from the Institute of Advanced Study of Human Sexuality (IASHS) in San Francisco, California. IASHS has a 35-year history of graduating many of America’s leading sex therapists. Dr. Cannon is also certified as a sexologist by the American College of Sexologists, as well as the American Board of Sexology. (Sexology is the scientific study of sexual behavior and people’s related feelings). He is a member of numerous professional organizations, and he serves as the Colorado Section Leader for the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists.
