Mountain View Analytics In Stock Futures Funds Directory
Mountain View Analytics (MVA) was founded in October 1999 to bring Stanford University Professor Tom Covers powerful Universal Portfolio methodology to the investment community. MVA has developed a set of sophisticated programs that effectively implement the mathematically complex methodology on a day-to-day basis. Justin L. Welsh, president, has 15 years of experience developing and applying financial analysis tools and in management consulting. Mr. Welshs experience includes developing new products for a mutual fund company and modeling sophisticated fixed income securities. Mr. Welsh holds an M.S. degree in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University. David J. Julian, chief architect, has refined the Universal Portfolio methodology to improve its effectiveness and improved upon the computational technique and increased the speed of the program. Mr. Julian is skilled in applied information theory and programming. He is currently studying under Dr. Cover in pursuit of a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He has published papers in the area of satellite communications. Mr. Julian holds an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. Prof. Thomas M. Cover performed the original optimal portfolio rebalancing research described in Universal Portfolios, Mathematical Finance, Volume 1, No. 1, January 1991. Dr. Cover is a professor jointly in the departments of Statistics and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He holds the K.T. Li endowed chair in engineering. His areas of research are information theory, communication theory, portfolio theory and statistics. He is the author of over 100 papers and two books, including the basic textbook, Elements of Information Theory, and has authored numerous papers on portfolio theory. Dr. Cover received the 1990 Claude E. Shannon Award (the highest award in information theory), the 1994 Neural Net Pioneer Award, the 1997 IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal, and two prize paper awards. Dr. Cover has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering and is a Fellow of the IEEE and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. He has served as a consultant to investment funds and was the contract statistician for the California State Lottery from 1986 through 1994.
