I began trading in 1999 just before the market peak.This says a lot about about my timing. It was the big run up that attracted me to trading plus the fact that I was in a rut with my day job at Motorola. Having progressed from a technician level in 1978 to that of senior staff engineer/scientist, I could not advance any farther without an advanced degree. When I approached age 55, I decided to trade stocks full time beginning in 2003. Im just now arriving at a level to call myself an average trader. I say this because Im not sure what to call myself before. Id realized all along that I needed help with trading. But by the end of 2003 I had spent over $15,000 on books, newsletters and advisory memberships, one after another, but was unable to profit from all the recommendations. I simply did not have a feel for what was going on. When I tried to follow a trade recommendation it was often ill timed. My savings steadily dwindled at a most uncomfortable and accelerating rate. A. Einsteins definition of lunacy was, .when people repeatedly do the same thing and expect a different result.It was not until 2004 when I heard about Dr. Stephen Coopers trading methods did something begin to resonate. By this time I had developed some firm opinions on what worked and, mostly, what did not. I had begun to trade less frequently, entering trades more thoughtfully and not losing money. I wasnt making any meaningful profits yet but I was halfway there. Dr. Coopers goals and approach matched what I had learned from experience. This was the key. He actually came right out and said, Trading profits are inversely proportional to the quantity of trades made. While I had never heard it put that way before, I needed to have gained a certain amount of real world experience in the emotionally charged world of stock market greed and fear before I could hear it properly. The normal work ethic had been very deeply ingrained in me. You know, the more you work, the more progress you make. Well, in trading, that just isnt the case. The work needs to be applied to studying the markets, not in making a large number of trades. I had realized that trading was going to be a world apart from the narrowly and well categorized world of electronics simulation and modeling where I had spent the past 25 years. But I had no idea how long it was going to take me to make the transition. Now, I know how to step back and let profits happen and Im ready to help as many traders as possible through their transition period. WiserTrader is a provider of proven trading systems used in stocks, options, futures and currency markets. The site is operated by Desert Mountain Systems, an Arizona outfit. My goal is to help traders make consistent profits through their mastery of at least one trading system. Mastering a system involves customizing it to your personality. Only about 12% of traders are successful today. I believe that is because the percentage of traders that rely on proven trading systems is quite small. One should first learn a single system well and then use it is a basis to expand future learning and techniques. Ideally, a new trader should obtain the guidance of a master trader when first starting out. Rather than my trying to fill that role, I prefer to point you in the direction of master traders, like Dr. Cooper, who remain active as teachers. That is the purpose of this site. Maybe you will find something here that resonates with your personal experience. The system that I am most familiar with is taught by Dr. Cooper. A good introduction to his methods can be found at his website. Trading Systems are found in many forms, from complex trading platforms connected to a broker, to software communicating with a market database, all the way to a simple collection of written rules for manually entering and exiting trades. All combinations of these forms are called trading systems. This site specializes in the latter two, software and documented rule based procedures.
