IG Index, the original IG Group company, was founded in 1974. It was the first financial spread betting company in Britain, and is today the leading operation of its type in the world. The group expanded rapidly in the 1990s with the introduction of Foreign Exchange dealing, Contracts for Differences (CFDs) and sports spread betting. 2000 In 2000 IG Group was floated on the London Stock Exchange. In 2003 the founders decision to sell his remaining interest in the company compelled a management buyout backed by CVC Capital Partners. The group continued to expand its product range and scope of operations through the introduction of binary betting and the establishment of a rapidly growing business in Australia.
