CLS Group was founded in 1997 to create the first global settlement system, eliminating settlement risk in the foreign exchange market. The CLS service is offered by CLS Bank International (‘CLS Bank’), and is supported by 69 of the world’s largest banking and financial institutions. Together they account for a substantial majority of cross-currency transactions across the globe. CLS is a unique real-time process enabling simultaneous FX settlement across the globe, eliminating the settlement risk caused by delays arising from time-zone differences. Fifteen currencies are currently eligible for CLS settlement. They are: US Dollar, Euro, UK Sterling, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, Canadian Dollar, Australian Dollar, Swedish Krona, Danish Krone, Norwegian Krone, the Singapore Dollar, the Hong Kong Dollar, the New Zealand Dollar, the Korean Won and the South African Rand. CLS Group has two main operating companies, CLS Bank and CLS Services. CLS Services provides technical and operational support to CLS Bank.
